How Can Eating Organic Foods Help Your Health

 

 

Along with eating Organic foods and exercising regularly, there are other important components needed to build a complete healthy lifestyle. Organic food promises better taste, better nutrition and no chemicals, all at an increased price. There’s no doubt that organic food is growing in popularity and sales.
“Organic food needs to have been grown without the use of synthetic chemicals like pesticides or artificial fertilizers, without genetically modified components and without exposure to irradiation, there is a small amount of scientific evidence to show that organic food is better in quality than conventional food. Scientific research conducted thus far on various organic food items has not been able to give strong evidence about the superiority of organic food over non-organic food. This is more so because the bulk of the scientific research is based on funding provided by the governments and industry. Even the FDA and the USDA clearly mention that non-organic food is as healthy as organic food. However, there are some scientific studies that have proved organic milk and organic tomatoes to be better than the non-organic varieties.
There are many studies that prove that there is some pesticide and fertilizer contamination in non-organic food, and there are others which claim that organic food is not healthy because they contain harmful bacteria and viruses because of not using strong chemicals to protect against these toxic substances. However, none of these studies that show chemical contamination or the presence of bacteria/viruses show any direct impact on the overall health of individuals.
A number of studies have been completed regarding the effects of antioxidants derived from organic foods on your overall health the predominant results have shown that antioxidants tend to have more of an impact when they come from organic foods. This may be due to the fact that foreign chemicals are not negatively interacting with the different vitamins, minerals, and organic compounds that are so essential for the positive impact of fruits and vegetables in the prevention of things like cancer, heart disease, premature aging, vision problems, and cognitive malfunction. Recent research suggests that choosing organic food can lead to increased intake of nutritionally desirable antioxidants.

Several Advantages of Organic Foods

• Nutrients – The European Union funded study found that organic fruit and vegetables have up to 50% more antioxidants, which scientists believe can cut the risk of cancer and heart disease. They have also more vitamins and minerals such as iron and zinc.
• Taste – taste of organic fruits and vegetables is often superior to any conventional produce
• Safe for Babies and Children-The average baby is born with 200 toxins and carcinogens in its body. By the time kids reach their 2nd year, most have pasted the lethal limit for the toxins. By feeding your child organic food, it will have about 1/6th the amount of carcinogens in its blood. Thus you will decrease the chances of illnesses.
• Irradiation– wonders why organic vegetables and fruits seem to spoil so much faster than produce from normal supermarkets. The reason is that many foods are irradiated. Irradiation kills bacteria and extends food life. But, it also alters the molecular structure and life force of the food
• GMO– It’s suspected that GM food causes allergies and decreases your immune system.
• Animals– Organic farmed animals are raised without dangerous chemicals, growth hormones or antibiotics. Pesticides used in ordinary farming don’t just affect the animal that eats it first. They accumulate in their tissues (mostly fat). Animals on top of the food chain get the highest concentration of these chemicals. Conventional animals full of toxins and dirt.

On the flip side of organic foods, the causes of coronary heart disease and diabetes may vary; scientific evidence from dietary studies has linked the consumption of animal products to these deadly ailments. Additional research has correlated consuming vegan foods (plant based) with a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, and a whole host of other chronic and debilitating disorders. For some people, improving their diet can be as simple as deciding to eat healthier foods, but for others it can be much more challenging—especially if they have limited or no access to healthy foods like fresh produce and whole grains in the areas where they live.
The official position of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, is that healthy vegan and vegetarian diets “can help prevent and treat chronic diseases including heart disease, cancer, obesity and diabetes.”
According to the ADA, “Vegetarian diets tend to be lower in saturated fat and cholesterol and have higher levels of dietary fiber, magnesium and potassium, vitamins C and E, folate, carotenoids, flavonoids and other phytochemicals. These nutritional differences may explain some of the health advantages of those following a varied, balanced vegetarian diet.” The report also stated that plant-based diets are appropriate for people of all ages and activity levels, including pregnant and nursing mothers, infants, children, adolescents, and athletes.
However you slice the facts and figures, it is clear that coronary heart disease and diabetes stem from the same risk factors—eating animal products and processed foods, unhealthy weight gain, and lack of exercise. People can significantly reduce their risk factors for these and other diseases by making healthy lifestyle choices.
